Police have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with a series of fires set in Oshawa over the Victoria Day weekend.

According to police, eight separate fires -- including a car fire on Simcoe Street and bush fires on Nassau Street and Marquette Avenue -- occurred between 3:40 and 5:10 a.m. on Saturday in Oshawa.

The fires also affected multiple structures at Oshawa Central Collegiate Institute.

A suspect was apprehended while officers investigated the fire on Marquette Avenue.

Police located four knives and fire-starting materials at the time of the arrest.

A suspect in the case was identified by police as Kyle Roberts of Oshawa. Roberts faces a number of charges including arson with disregard to human life, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and four counts of arson causing property damage.
