Police are trying to identify a suspect after a Richmond Hill convenience store was robbed at knifepoint Monday afternoon.

According to police, a man walked into a convenience store near Yonge Street and Weldrick Road at around 3 p.m. and started to wander around the shop.

At some point, the man approached the cash register area where he grabbed a knife from his backpack and demanded the employee hand him cash.

Police said the man then went behind the service counter and grabbed cash from the open register.

The suspect then fled the store and was last seen running on Weldrick Road East.

Police are searching for a suspect described as a white male who is between 20 and 25 years old with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a winter jacket, a baseball hat, and jeans. He was also carrying a backpack and a large knife.
