Engineering students from universities across Canada raced canoes made from concrete along Toronto’s waterfront.

Over 250 students participated in the Sunday race, after designing and building the concrete canoes over the past year.

They tested their ability to float their masterpieces today at Marilyn Bell Park, with most canoes successfully skimming across Lake Ontario.

Winners from the event today will qualify to join other concrete canoe competitions in the U.S.

Participants of the race today say that they participate in this competition for “no other reason than the challenge.”
