York Regional Police are advertising holding cells like hotel rooms, with no reservations needed for those who choose to drink and drive on New Year's Eve.

As part of a campaign against impaired driving, the force published a mock webpage advertising deals on holding cells.

"Rooms starting at $10,000," the web page boasts, noting in fine print that the price includes legal fees.

"Get booked now!"

The page lists "amenities" including cold water, 24-hour surveillance, stainless steel appliances and excellent security. With a half-star rating (out of five), police offer free shuttle service available nightly and foil blankets and handcuffs available free of charge.

"Reservations not required," the web page says.

The faux web page includes reviews from visitors such as Henry Highdriver and Oliver Overeighty.

Highdriver warns that the beds are "definitely no Sleep Number," referring to a brand of adjustable beds that allow users to change the firmness of the mattress.

Overeighty says the staff accommodated his gluten-free diet: "The staff were kind enough to take the bread off of the egg sandwich for me. Almost made up for the bedroom, which was also the bathroom…and the dining area…"

Diane Deathwish says the shuttle service was convenient, especially when her car was impounded, but the shuttle itself lacked legroom.

At the bottom of the flyer, a message from police reminds residents that impaired driving can not only cost money or jail time, but can be fatal.

York region police encourage drivers to call 911 if they suspect another motorist is impaired.
