Toronto police are searching for a suspect they say stole a kitten named Einstein from a store in North York.

On May 4 just before 9 p.m., police said a man walked into a Pet Valu store in the area of Yonge Street and Cummer Avenue.

The man proceeded to walk into an enclosure containing cats where he picked up a kitten and put it in his coat.

Police allege the man then left the store without paying for the kitten.

According to Team Cat Rescue -- a charity organization that helps find homes for displaced or stray cats -- Einstein was found abandoned before being placed in the Pet Valu store to be sold.

Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact police at 416-808-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
