The husband of a Toronto woman murdered in Cabbagetown last month said he wants to face the person who killed his wife.

Nighisti Semret, 55, was stabbed to death while she was walking home from work in the early morning hours of Oct. 23.

Semret, a refugee from Eritrea and mother of three, was stabbed once in the arm and a few times in the torso.

In a telephone interview from Uganda with CTV Toronto, her husband, Augustus Ntahobali, said his wife’s murder has left him traumatized.

“I haven’t recovered from it,” he said.

Ntahobali is awaiting a visa to gain entry into Canada.

He said he hopes to travel here so he can face his wife’s killer.

“I would like to see him in the eyes and stand in front of him and look at him,” he said

Meanwhile, co-workers at the Delta Chelsea Hotel, where Semret worked, are raising funds to send her body home.

The motive of the stabbing remains unknown.

Police have seized more than 200 hours of surveillance footage and hope video of the murder suspect and victim will jog the memory of potential witnesses.

Ntahobali said he almost fainted when he watched the surveillance video online.

Police have said they believe the suspect either lives in or is very familiar with the Cabbagetown area.
