A 16-year-old Toronto girl who lied to her mother to attend Justin Bieber’s concert on Monday night says her scheme paid off when the pop star called her up on stage.

“He hugged me and I was crying,” said Raena Goldstein, who has been a huge Bieber fan since she was eight years old.

Goldstein first spoke to CTV News on Monday. The teen had risked her mother’s wrath to get to the concert at the Danforth Music Hall, lying about a sleepover with friends.

“I got her to drop me off at my friend’s house, took the elevator up, took it back down,” Goldstein said before the concert. “My friend picked me up and then we came (to the concert).”

Danielle Leonard, who took Goldstein to the show, says she helped convince the Bieber to invite Goldstein up on stage by pointing at her and yelling, “It’s her birthday.”

Bieber and Goldstein hugged and held hands as the singer serenaded her.

Goldstein’s mother says she was “so angry” when she found out she had been deceived, but when she saw her daughter on stage with Bieber, she couldn’t help being happy for her.

“I’m not happy with her choice of not being honest, but this was her destiny,” said Lainie Goldstein.

Lainie says Raena will not be punished, but that she would have preferred if her daughter had told her the truth.

Given the chance, Raena said she would do it all over again.

The teen already has tickets to Bieber’s concert in May.
