Firefighters worked into the evening to extinguish a three-alarm blaze that broke out at an industrial building on Queen Street East Sunday afternoon.

The fire started in the ceiling in the mechanical room on the second floor of the building located on Queen Street East between Parliament and River streets, Toronto Fire Services said. .

There were welders working on the third floor of the building, but it wasn’t clear if their work was related to the fire, Toronto Fire said.

Firefighters said there were no injuries in the fire.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Queen Street East was shut down from Parliament Street to River Street for several hours as firefighters battled the blaze.

The 501 Queen streetcar route was also diverting both ways because of the fire, the TTC said. The route resumed regular service around 10 p.m.
