Three dozen people were taken into custody when Toronto and Durham police executed 29 search warrants in the Toronto area Tuesday morning.

The Toronto Police Emergency Task Force and Durham Regional Police officers raided residences at approximately 5 a.m.

Durham Regional Police told CTV Toronto the raids were part of a drug investigation that included warrants in Scarborough, North York, York Region, Brampton, Durham Region and Ottawa.

Police said 36 people have been arrested and face numerous drug-related charges. Quantities of drugs including cocaine, crystal meth, marijuana and MDMA were seized in addition to vehicles and cash.

Officers said they could not provide further information as the investigation is ongoing.
