The City of Brampton said Friday it has reached a tentative deal with the union representing its more than 900 bus drivers and mechanics, potentially avoiding a strike that could have started as early as Monday morning.

Brampton officials say union members will vote on whether to ratify the tentative deal on Tuesday. City councillors will consider the deal at a later meeting.

“We are pleased that a negotiated settlement was achieved that meets the needs of employees, the Corporation and the residents we serve,” Mayor Linda Jeffrey said in a news release.

If ratified by both sides the deal will cover 944 drivers and mechanics represented by Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1573,

The workers serve the regular Brampton Transit bus service as well as the city’s ZṺM rapid bus network.
