Cab drivers are protested outside city hall this morning, causing traffic delays in the downtown core.

This protest comes as the city of Toronto and Uber are in court, fighting over the legality of the company’s operations.

Taxi drivers from across the GTA gathered on Monday around 9:30 a.m. at Yonge Street and Queens Quay before they drove together to city hall.

The protest is causing some traffic delays on Queen Street West near Bay Street as the cabs are partially blocking the road.

The Toronto taxi industry says the ride-sharing company does not follow the rules and regulations instituted by the City to protect the public.

“The licensed taxi drivers are asking for fairness and a level playing field. No one should be operating outside of the law,” said Sajid Mughal, President of iTaxi Workers Association.

Mayor John Tory has previously thrown his support behind the ride-sharing service, saying that Uber is “here to stay” and the city must find a way to work with the service.
