Drugs and alcohol were a factor, police say, after they tracked and arrested a naked man suspected of breaking into a Uxbridge home.

Durham Regional Police said they were called to a home on Second Avenue shortly after noon Monday, after a neighbour reported an unknown, naked man swimming in a backyard pool.

The homeowner arrived to find the still-naked man inside her home. Upon investigation, it was determined that her shower had been used, her food eaten, and her bedroom ransacked, police said.

The homeowners told officers that he fled out the back door and into a wooded area. Durham's canine unit was called to the scene and tracked the man to a nearby pond, where they found a suspect hiding in the tall grass.

He was arrested without further incident, and has been charged with breaking and entering.

The 18-year-old is facing charges, police said, adding that drugs and alcohol were a factor in the incident.
