A 23-year-old Brampton man is accused of trying to escape from a police officer while operating his motorcycle at twice the speed limit.
The male suspect faces a total of 13 charges after the incident on Thursday morning, including:
- dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- possession of property worth more than $5,000 obtained by crime
- resisting a peace officer
- possession of marijuana (under 30 grams)
- driving with an open container of liquor
- driving under suspension
- driving with no plates
- failure to wear a proper helmet
- evading a toll
- & racing.
Burlington OPP say the man failed to stop for an officer after a motorcycle was seen speeding westbound on Highway 407 in the Town of Milton around 7 a.m.
The officer couldn’t stop the motorcyclist on the highway because the vehicle was going twice the speed limit, but eventually caught up with him at a red light near Appleby Line.
“After a brief struggle, the rider was removed from his motorcycle and handcuffed,” says the OPP.
A 2007 Yamaha YZF motorcycle has been impounded for seven days.
Sheldon Bent, 23, of Brampton, is facing 13 charges.
