The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to investigate a Monday morning fire that engulfed adowntown Toronto house divided into rental apartments.

The fire was reported by a neighbour who spotted flames at a home on Ulster Street, just east of Bathurst, at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Officials estimated that 45 firefighters were called to help extinguish the blaze, which was knocked down shortly after 6 a.m.

Platoon Chief Colin Reid told media on scene that he believed the fire started in the garage area before spreading to the home.

"All occupants were able to get out, some with a little bit of assistance, but nobody has been taken to the hospital," Reid said.

At least five vehicles were damaged.

The home, which was divided into several apartments, had been cleared by firefighters a few months after they found a violation in 2012, Toronto Fire Chief Jim Stoops said Monday.

Bathurst Street was closed to TTC vehicles and other vehicles between Harbord and College Streets for approximately two hours Monday morning, but has since reopened.
