Toronto councillor Adam Vaughan has won the nomination to run for the Liberal party in the riding of Trinity-Spadina.

Vaughan announced his intention to join the federal race in April, a month after Olivia Chow vacated the seat in order to run in Toronto’s mayoral race.

Vaughan, who has served on Toronto council for Ward 20 Trinity-Spadina since 2006, told CP24 in April that he was prepared to take the next step in his political career and was focused on bringing issues such as low-income housing to the national stage.

“We have a housing crisis in Toronto, it’s time to talk about it federally,” he said.

Joe Cressy, Chow’s former campaign strategist and long-time party affiliate, is running for the NDP in Trinity-Spadina.

A byelection date for Trinity-Spadina has not yet been announced.
