PARRY SOUND, Ont. -- Two people survived the crash of their small plane into the waters of Georgian Bay Saturday evening.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says someone on a nearby sailboat saw the plane ditch and flip upside down.

The two occupants, a male and female, were able to make it shore.

Ontario Provincial Police and a coast guard vessel and helicopter were dispatched.

Rescue officials say the OPP got to the pair first and they were reportedly ok, but police took them to hospital in Parry Sound to be checked out.

The Transportation Safety Board will try to discover the cause of the crash.
