A series of thunderstorms rattled the GTA Sunday, triggering a number of warnings and watches from Environment Canada.

At one point the warnings included Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga, Pickering, Oshawa, Newmarket, Georgina and a number of other areas.

Most of the warnings ended by 11:30 p.m., but thunderstorm warnings and watches remained in effect for a number of areas west of Toronto just before midnight Sunday.

Just after midnight early Monday, Environment Canada’s website showed all the warnings for southern Ontario had ended.

The thunderstorms followed a series of tornado warnings issued for other parts of the province earlier in the evening. By 9 p.m., all the tornado warnings had either ended or been downgraded. No serious damage or injuries were reported.

People in various areas of the province reported seeing lightning and swirling clouds Sunday. One photo shared with CP24 via Twitter appeared to show lightning striking the ground in Ajax. Other people reported seeing dark, swirling clouds and heavy on-and-off rain.

Environment Canada has not confirmed that any tornados actually touched down.
