A video shot at a GTA mall shows a security guard kicking and kneeing a man, raising questions about whether the guard went too far.

The amateur footage was filmed on Dec. 20 at the Bramalea City Centre, in the Dixie Road and Highway 410 area of Brampton.

The man who made the recording says he does not want to be identified.

The footage shows one guard kicking and kneeing a man while other guards hold onto him and attempt to put him in handcuffs.

A security expert says the video raises questions.

“I don’t know the whole situation, but there are certainly question marks around using foot strikes and knee strikes to a prone subject when they’re under control,” says David Hyde, an independent security consultant.

Representatives from the mall say the suspect was eventually arrested and charged with theft and assault.

Peel Police will not confirm the arrest, or say whether they are investigating any complaints related to the video. They say that if a complaint is made related to the arrest, they will be bound to investigate.

Bramalea City Centre says they are waiting for the results of an internal investigation being conducted by the security company before deciding what to do next.
