Two men accused of killing a young woman in Toronto’s Port Lands neighbourhood have been found guilty of second-degree murder.

A jury returned the verdicts against Robert Henry Beauregard and Jonathan Ash Saturday night after deliberating since Wednesday.

Leanne Freeman, 23, was shot five times on Unwin Avenue in Toronto’s industrial Port Lands area in Nov. 2011. Her clothing and personal belongings were later discovered in a commercial dumpster.

Both Beauregard and Ash admitted to being with Freeman when she was shot and dumping her belongings, but both men denied killing her.

The court heard that all three belonged to a group known as “the crystal circle,” a ring of people who dealt and used crystal meth.

Freeman was described as a drifter from Winnipeg whose life took a turn for the worse after her mother died. According to her brother, she worked in the sex trade and became addicted to drugs.

Sentencing will occur at a later date.
