Ossington subway station had to be temporarily evacuated Thursday night after a vehicle struck a gas line nearby and caused a natural-gas leak.
The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. on Bloor Street West near the subway station.
Sgt. Stacey Davis told CP24 there was an altercation between two people just before a car hit the gas line. Police were looking for the driver of that vehicle, who fled the scene.
TTC officials evacuated the station while police directed traffic in the area. One person was transported to hospital, but Davis said she didn’t know what type of injury was involved.
A strong odour of gas wafted through the area, but Davis said Enbridge crews were working to cap the leak. The incident was not expected to affect the morning commute.
Trains on the Bloor-Danforth line were bypassing Ossington station in both directions late Thursday night, but service resumed around 11 p.m.
