All lanes of Hwy 410 southbound were shut down for several hours at Steeles Ave. Monday after a tractor trailer overturned.
The crash happened around 12 p.m. on the right southbound lane of the highway, OPP said. The driver of the vehicle was initially pinned behind the steering wheel, but responders managed to free him after about 30 minutes.
He was taken to hospital by air ambulance in serious, but non-life-threatening condition, Ornge said.
Earlier, OPP said they weren’t sure of the extent of the man’s injuries, but were proceeding cautiously as he was being removed from the vehicle.
“We do have paramedics standing by here so that anything that does happen—they can address it,” OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford told CP24.
He said the male driver was conscious and talking.
The cause of the crash is not yet known. Woodford said police will look at speed and the weight of the vehicle as possible factors.
The highway partially reopened around 3 p.m., with the right lane still closed for cleanup.
