A pair of giant panda cubs born at the Toronto Zoo earlier this year will join their parents in Calgary in 2018.
The Calgary Zoo announced Friday that the black-and-white twins will be heading west in three years, rather than remaining in Toronto.
"The wee cubs are still in a critical time of development, however the Toronto Zoo team of experts have been very encouraged by their progress," the Calgary Zoo said in a statement.
The zoo said the pandas' exhibit is nearly complete, and includes additional space in case the female adult panda conceives while in Calgary.
Now eight weeks old, the cubs opened their eyes for the first time earlier this week.
The small bears are also developing stronger voices, with soft squeaks turning into stronger, bird-like squawks.
The cubs' parents, Er Shun and Da Mao, have been in Toronto since 2013. The bears are on loan to Canada from China.
