Deputy mayor Norm Kelly and Premier Kathleen Wynne are meeting Tuesday afternoon in their first private sit-down since Kelly assumed several key powers that were taken away from Mayor Rob Ford by city council.
Kelly and Wynne are set to discuss how work is progressing at city hall now that Kelly has assumed some mayoral responsibilities and the frenzy surrounding Ford’s scandal has calmed down.
Ford is upset because he wasn’t invited to the meeting, which is scheduled to take place behind closed doors at Queen’s Park at noon.
In a letter to Wynne, Ford told the premier she should be meeting with him instead of Kelly to discuss important matters such as the Scarborough subway extension and provincial funding.
“I believe that it would be most appropriate for you to meet with the elected mayor of Toronto on these matters, which affect the city as a whole,” Ford wrote in the letter. “As the elected representative of Toronto residents and chief executive officer of the City of Toronto, I believe it is important that we maintain an open dialogue.”
Ford informed Wynne that he is available to meet with her after he launches his annual toy drive at city hall at 11 a.m. or whenever she is available.
The premier’s office said Wynne is meeting with Kelly because he is currently representing city council.
