A toddler was rushed to hospital after his mother found the 18-month-old in a pond near Ajax, police said.
Durham Regional Police received an emergency call for a possible drowning around 10 a.m. Sunday.
Rescuers responded to the call on Greenwood Drive, which is in a rural area north of Ajax.
The child was taken to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, where doctors were able to stabilize his condition.
It isn't clear how the toddler got into trouble, but it is believed he wandered away from his family home.
