Three girls were rescued early Friday morning after spending the night stranded on the Scarborough Bluffs.

The Toronto Fire bluffs rescue unit responded to the call just west of Warden Avenue.

Two fourteen-year-olds and a sixteen-year-old became stranded after propelling down the bluffs to go for a swim on Thursday.

Fire fighters said the rescue was difficult due the treacherous terrain.

"It's a much easier rescue when it's just a sand bluff or an open grass area," Durham Fire Chief Hans Leppik told CTV News on Friday.

"With all this underbrush and brambles, it was actually quite difficult for the guys to actually get down."

All three of the teenagers were examined by paramedics at the scene for signs of exposure. The three girls were later taken to Toronto East General Hospital.

Leppik said the bluffs are a dangerous area that should be avoided.

"We have some adventurous ones that try and they really shouldn't be doing it because nine times out of ten they don't make it.
