A woman wearing a hijab was spit on while out in the Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue area, according to Toronto police.

Investigators sent out a news release Wednesday that included a photo of a suspect wanted in connection with the case.

The man is described as being white, about five-foot-eight, with a thin build, thin face and straight, blonde hair. He was wearing light clothing, blue jeans and white runners at the time.

Police said the woman was approached by the stranger as she walked into a retail plaza in the neighbourhood. The man said something before spitting on her.

Det. Sgt. Jim Gotell told CP24.com that the woman did not understand what the man said to her because of a language barrier.

Investigators believe the suspect may live in the area and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who may have been involved to call police at 416-808-3316.
