Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the GTA, advising that local winter driving conditions are expected this evening.
Snow amounts between five and 10 centimetres are expected in some parts of the city and the province. The statement covers Toronto and most of the GTA.
“Slippery conditions may occur on untreated surfaces later this evening and overnight, and visibilities may be reduced at times,” Environment Canada said in its release.
Closer to Lake Ontario, the snow is expected to be mixed with rain, preventing accumulation. However up to five centimetres of snow are expected across the northern suburbs, where temperatures are expected to dip below the freezing mark.
The precipitation is expected to taper off before the morning commute, the agency said.
A high of 5 C is expected in Toronto Monday with a 40 per cent chance of showers. Similar conditions are expected Tuesday, and then flurries are forecast for the rest of the week with the temperature expected to hover at or below the freezing mark.
