TORONTO - Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Scott Richmond of North Vancouver, B.C., has hurt his shoulder preparing for spring training, the team announced Saturday.
Richmond is suffering from right shoulder impingement and will need rehab. Trainers will closely monitor his progress during a revised throwing program.
Richmond went 8-11 in 2009, his rookie season, with an ERA of 5.52. He pitched in 27 games, including 24 starts, and struck out 117 batters and walked 59 in 138.2 innings.
He got off to a blazing start with a 3-0 record in April, earning him the American League rookie of the month award.
The Jays said Richmond's timetable for full-scale training will depend on the progress of his rehab program.
