A 52-year-old Brampton man has been charged with careless driving after a truck rolled over, spilling mayonnaise and salad dressing on part of a busy highway interchange on Tuesday.
The ramp leading onto Highway 401 from the Don Valley Expressway is expected to remain closed until at least 8 p.m. after the cargo was spilled all over the road.
The transport truck ended up on its side on the ramp shortly before 11 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital following the rollover, but OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said it was only as a precaution. The driver suffered from some cuts and bruises.
The creamy mess that spilled from the truck onto the roadway was a mixture of salad dressing and mayonnaise, Schmidt said.
In a video Schmidt posted on Twitter, greenish-yellow sauce is seen oozing out of the containers and spilling out over the roadway.
Schmidt said it would likely take hours to get the truck upright and to clean up the road. Initially, he said the ramp would be closed for most of the afternoon -- but later said it would not reopen before 8 p.m.
In the meantime, traffic is being diverted to Highway 401 eastbound or to Highway 404.
Drivers are being advised to exit the northbound DVP earlier at York Mills Road to avoid the congestion or to proceed to Highway 404 and then exit at Finch Avenue.
