The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is getting a $10 million dollar donation from Teck Cominco Ltd. -- the largest corporate gift in the museum's history.

The donation raises the total amount donated to the museum's current expansion and renovation project to $250 million.

The gift will be marked by the establishment of the Teck Cominco Suite of Earth Sciences Galleries. At the suite there will be three galleries which will feature minerals and gems on display.

The money will also help to bring the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame over from the University of Toronto to the ROM.

The project is set for completion within two years.

The donation is the ROM's sixth-largest gift ever.

In first place is the $30 million donated in 2003 from Michael Lee-Chin, chairman and CEO of AIC Limited.
