A case of road rage led to a motorist being stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver on Friday morning, Toronto police said.

The incident occurred downtown, near College and McCaul Streets, at about 9:45 a.m.

Police said a bicycle courier became enraged when he was cut off by the motorist making a left-hand turn onto College.

The cyclist, who was not struck by the vehicle, caught up to the driver and the two exchanged words. Police allege the cyclist then pulled out a screwdriver and stabbed the driver several times in the neck and face through the open vehicle window.

The male victim was taken to St. Michael's Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The cyclist apparently fled on foot, leaving his bicycle behind.

The suspect is described as a man in his late 20s or 30s.
