The Honda Indy, Chinatown Festival, BIG on Bloor Festival and other events will cause traffic headaches across the city over the weekend.
Event closures
The Toronto Honda Indy means several roads will be closed for the weekend, as they transform into part of the racetrack:
- Strachan Avenue will be closed from Lake Shore Boulevard to Fleet Street.
- Lake Shore will be closed from Strachan to British Columbia Drive.
The 14th Annual Toronto Chinatown Festival will extend along Dundas Street West, meaning Dundas will be closed off between Spadina Avenue and Beverley Street, and Huron Street will be closed between D'Arcy Street and Dundas Street West from 12:00 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Sunday.
Bloor Street West will be closed from Dufferin Street to Lansdowne Avenue for the BIG on Bloor Festival, on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
Clinton Street will be closed from Bloor Street West to Barton Avenue for a street party, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.
The Yonge Street Live Green Festival will close part of Yonge Street from Edward Street to Queen Street from 6:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, Yonge Street will be closed from Dunas Street to Shuter Street for Youth Day, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Lake Shore Boulevard closures
From Cherry Street to the Don Roadway, the eastbound and westbound centre and right lanes are occupied due to Gardiner Expressway repairs, every day from 11 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The westbound passing lane will be occupied from Rees Street to Van De Water Crescent by tunnel construction from 9 a.m. to midnight every day until the end of February 2015.
Until Sunday, Aug. 31, one lane eastbound and one lane westbound will be occupied due to TTC Leslie Street Connection Track Project, 24 hours a day.
Westbound lanes from Park Lawn Road to Humber River will be occupied by construction 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Wednesday, July 30.
Gardiner Expressway closures
The eastbound and westbound left lanes will be occupied by construction daily from midnight to noon between Ellis Avenue and Dufferin Street.
The eastbound and westbound left shoulder and right shoulder lanes will be occupied by long-term construction from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, between Park Lawn Road and Humber River.
Don Valley Parkway closures
The DVP northbound ramp to Highway 401 is closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.
TTC closures and diversions
On the Bloor-Danforth line, subways will turn back at Islington Station. Shuttle buses will run between Kipling and Islington Stations for the weekend.
Train service on the Yonge-University-Spadina line will end early between Eglinton and Finch Stations every day except Saturday, but shuttle buses will run until the usual end of service.
