TORONTO - Toronto police have arrested two men they allege stole recalled Hershey's chocolates that were intended for disposal but ended up in stores.

In November 2006, Hershey's was forced to recall dozens of products after salmonella was detected at its plant in Smiths Falls, Ont.

Police say Turtle Island Recycling Depot in Toronto had been contracted to receive and dispose of the potentially contaminated products.

One of the two accused is an employee of the recycling plant, and police allege he intercepted a batch of chocolates intended for disposal.

Police believe a small amount of recalled product reached retailers.

Adesh Rambharack, 39, and Agampodi Desilva, 32, both of Toronto, have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and theft over.
