York Regional Police were canvassing in Whitchurch-Stouffville northeast of Toronto on Sunday, searching for clues after partial remains of six dismembered cats were found in the area during the last two months.
Police are targeting an area near Tenth Line and Main Street, where six severed cat heads were found in public locations, one of them near a daycare.
Investigators are still unsure of the motive behind the incidents but believe the acts were done intentionally. Police say the heads were all discovered within one-kilometre of residential neighbourhoods.
The first discovery was reported on Aug. 12, when a cat’s head and two legs were discovered near a daycare centre.
Police are warning cat owners to keep their pets indoors.
