Toronto police arrested three people Wednesday night for drug offences during a new initiative to increase patrol on neighbourhood streets.

The arrests happened in the Jane-Finch community while police were doing a routine patrol of the neighbourhood.

For the next ten weeks, teams of officers are walking or riding around some of Toroto's crime-ridden communities as part of a police anti-violence intervention strategy.

The idea is to make the neighbourhoods safer by increasing the visibility of officers on the street.

The police teams will concentrate on the northwest part of the city this summer.
