Police have located the mother of a toddler who was found trying to cross a busy street in Brampton, Ont. on Monday morning.

A 2- to 3-year-old girl was wandering alone in the area of Highway 7 and Creditview Road, Peel Regional Police said.

A local resident was driving by when he or she saw the toddler walking on the street by herself and stopped to help her. The driver called 911.

Officers went door-to-door looking for her parentsbefore the mother was found in front of Mount Pleasant Village Public School. It is unclear why the child was wandering alone.

The child was found in good health and was kept at a nearby fire station until her mother was found, Const. George Tudos told CTV Toronto.
