Peel Regional Police say it’s possible that a Mississauga man who went missing last month may have met with foul play.

Ernest Guinto, 36, was last seen by a family member at Square One Shopping Centre on Dec. 29.

Guinto is very close with his family and it’s unusual that he would not have tried to contact them to let them know of his whereabouts, police said, describing the man’s disappearance without a trace as unusual.

“Due to the suspicious nature of Mr. Guinto’s disappearance and the possibility that he may have met with foul play, the case is now being investigated by Peel Regional Police Homicide & Missing Persons Bureau,” police said in a news release issued Friday.

Police said it’s also possible Guinto may be trying to avoid people involved with criminal activity and may have gone into hiding. However they said that possibility becomes less likely as time passes.

Guinto is described as an Asian male, standing five-foot-seven and weighing 170 pounds. He has a heavy build, brown eyes and long black hair shaved at the sides. He was last seen wearing a red hoody, dark jogging pants and light-brown Timberland boots.

Anyone with information about Guinto’s whereabouts is asked to call the Homicide & Missing Persons Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205.
