Milton police and firefighters were called to Marantha Log House, 125 Main St. S., at about 11:25 p.m. on Tuesday night, by an occupant who smelled smoke inside the bed and breakfast.

Additional calls were placed to 911 by passersby, who reported seeing flames licking out of the large wooden residence.

Police, who arrived on the scene first, told CTV Toronto they saw flames shooting from the roof and the back of the two-storey building.

Firefighters who arrived shortly after police attacked the fire from outside the building, because it was too dangerous to enter. The roof and walls collapsed.

The building's five occupants escaped the fire, and were given oxygen by firefighters and paramedics on scene before being transported to hospital.

Three of the victims were listed in serious condition at the scene of the fire, but all five were in stable condition by Wednesday morning.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal. It is not considered suspicious.
