Police are continuing an intensive search for the remains of a woman’s body, after partial remains were found last week in the city’s west end.

Officers were at a waste transfer station on Commissioners Street Tuesday, one of at least five locations that are currently under investigation.

Apartments on Shuter Street and Humber Boulevard are also part of the investigation and police were at the sites Tuesday combing through the garbage.

Det. John Margetson told reporters that there’s still a lot of work to be done.

“I’d say we’re still looking for two-thirds of a body,” he said.

Meanwhile a Toronto man has been charged with indignity to a human body in connection with the case, but police said the investigation is ongoing and further charges could be laid.

The probe was launched on Friday, after the remains of a woman were discovered near Black Creek Drive and Weston Road. An area resident told CTV Toronto that he found the woman’s remains in a black duffel bag while he was walking through a ravine.

Margetson said that the woman’s death will be considered suspicious until the coroner’s office can determine how she died.

“Obviously due to the circumstances, it is a very suspicious death where there might be a criminal element to it,” he said.

Police have yet to identify the woman, but Margetson said the suspect and the victim, both natives of Eritrea, were known to each other.

“We suspect strongly who (the victim) is, but until a forensic investigation is done and next of kin is notified, we can’t release a name at this time,” Margetson said.

Adonay Zekarias, 41, of Toronto, was arrested at his home on Sunday and appeared in court on Tuesday.
