A thunderstorm rolled through the City of Toronto overnight, throbbing the area with rain and lighting up the sky with bolts of lightning.

The Toronto area was under a special weather statement from 1 a.m. until 6 a.m., and Environment Canada called for severe thunderstorms capable of producing torrential downpours and frequent lightning.

At the height of the disturbance, storm chaser George Kourounis captured a photo of lightning slicing through the sky, hitting the CN Tower.
