A 30-year-old woman died Thursday morning after being hit by a large truck in the downtown area.

Police and EMS responded to a call about collision between a pedestrian and a truck at Adelaide Street and Brant Street at about 7:40 a.m. Thursday morning, said Traffic Services Const. Clint Stibbe.

According to police, the woman was crossing Adelaide Street at Brant Street when she was hit by the truck.

Emergency crews found the woman at the scene, unconscious and with a faint pulse, said police.

She was rushed to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck is co-operating with police at the scene but is "shaken up," said Stibbe.

Earlier a section of Adelaide Street was closed, as police began their investigation. It has since been reopened.
