An OPP officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a police cruiser was struck while parked on the shoulder of Highway 401.

The collision occurred just before noon on Saturday in the westbound lanes of the highway at Port Union Road.

The driver of a white Toyota Corolla was merging onto Highway 401 when the car veered onto the shoulder and struck the rear left corner of the police cruiser.

The OPP officer and the male driver were both taken to hospital with minor injuries

OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told CP24 that the driver of the Corolla may have been in medical distress when he struck the police cruiser.

Police said the collision in still under investigation and charges are pending.
