An 85-year-old Ontario woman is facing a stunt driving charge after a fatal collision with a pedestrian and her dog last month.

Biana Cherniavski, 28, was walking her dog on the sidewalk along Thornhill Woods Drive in Vaughan, just north of Toronto, on June 10 when they were both hit by a vehicle that left the road, according to York Regional Police.

Police say the vehicle continued travelling across the lawns of several residences and struck several trees and a hydro transformer before coming to a rest on its roof in a driveway.

The pedestrian and her dog both died at the scene.

Betty Kestenberg has been charged with stunt driving, which is exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h, and careless driving.

Kestenberg and her 88-year-old husband, Louis – who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash – each face a charge of failing to wear a seatbelt.

The accused are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 19.
