TORONTO -

The Green Party of Ontario is looking for a new leader.

Frank de Jong, who has headed the party since 1993, has announced he will be stepping down.

The 53-year-old de Jong says holding the party's top job for the past 16 years through four general elections has been "profoundly challenging and rewarding."

Deputy leader Judy Smith-Torrie says de Jong has been the embodiment of Green values and lifestyle.

The party is expected to begin the formal nomination process for a new leader in the next few weeks.
