Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed one person early Friday morning.
OPP spokesman Sgt. Dave Woodford said three vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction collision in Highway 401's westbound lanes, near Guelph Line, at about 3:35 a.m.
After two cars collided, one of the cars was struck by a tractor-trailer, Woodford told CP24.
He said that car and the tanker truck burst into flames. The car's driver was killed and the driver of the tractor-trailer escaped without injury.
OPP said the truck and the car were destroyed in the fire.
The other car went into the ditch. The driver of that car wasn't injured.
Woodford said the tanker truck was hauling "a wax type of petroleum" that is not flammable or hazardous. The trailer did not sustain any damage.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 905-654-0150.
