Toronto police searched a Scarborough neighbourhood after two undercover officers dodged bullets during a drive-by shooting on Friday afternoon.
The constables were speaking to two people on Ling Road, a residential area near Kingston Road and Morningside Avenue, when a car pulled up and the driver opened fire. At least half a dozen rounds were fired.
The officers, who were not hit and not believed to be the intended targets, ran into a nearby apartment building. They phoned in a description of the suspect vehicle.
A short time later, at about 4 p.m., police found the same vehicle in the parking lot of a nearby McDonald's restaurant.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly handed two cell phones and his car keys to a patron, asking them to hold onto the items.
The suspect was arrested and the items were seized.
Officers are investigating several other locations. Police set up a command post in the area while they collected evidence.
Germaine Roberts, 31, faces six counts of discharging a firearm. He was also charged with possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, carrying a concealed weapon and failure to comply with recognizance.
