An empty commercial building in North Toronto has been completely gutted by fire.

The four-alarm blaze broke out at the address on Ingram Drive near Keele Street and Lawrence Avenue at around 2:30 a.m.

About 17 fire trucks and 65 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, however the building was fully engulfed upon arrival and crews had to battle the blaze from outside.

The fire is now considered under control, but crews continue to put out hot spots.

“Right now we are still putting water on the debris. The roof caved in fairly early in the fire, so it is all pancaked and it is hard to get to the embers in the bottom,” Platoon Chief Trevor Trotter told CP24 at the scene early Friday morning. “We are putting a tremendous amount of water on it right now and we will be here most of the day doing this.”

No injuries have been reported.

The building was once home to a used car dealership but has been empty for about a year and has been undergoing renovations in recent weeks, according to neighbours.

The Fire Marshall’s office has been notified.

Keele Street was closed at Ingram Drive, but reopened at around 7:30 a.m.
