New witnesses have come forward in the daylight shooting of a popular Toronto barber, but police are asking for more help in solving the murder.

Police say one suspect walked into the Cut Creators barber shop at 31 Tapscott Rd. shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday and opened fire on an employee from close range as patrons and other employees sat nearby.

The suspect then left, fleeing the scene through a Malvern Town Centre parking lot as afternoon shoppers were drawn in by the commotion.

Chris Thompson, the 35-year-old father of two children, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although police said officers have spoken with a number of witnesses, they are still seeking more. This includes the person who was getting a haircut at the time of the incident.

Police also said they have surveillance video footage of the prime suspect in the shooting. This video shows the man walking to the shop's front door, placing a duffel bag on the ground and removing a shotgun. He then enters the barber shop and confronts Thompson while he was cutting a customer's hair. The barber is shot multiple times.

The suspect then fled north toward McLevin Avenue, police said. The suspect may have had an accomplice waiting in a nearby parking lot.

The suspect is described as having dark skin and a slim build. He was last seen wearing a light-coloured or gray hoodie that partially concealed his face. He was also wearing a dark jacket and dark pants.

CTV's Tamara Cherry said police intend to release the video on Friday morning.
