A man sought in connection with the alleged defrauding of elderly people will be featured on the popular show "America's Most Wanted" this Saturday.

"Despite widespread media coverage and numerous warrants being issued by investigators from 10 Canadian Police Services, (Richard Earl) Rupert continues to evade capture," Niagara Regional Police said Wednesday in a news release.

"As a result, detectives with the Toronto Police Service recently approached producers from 'America's Most Wanted' requesting their assistance in apprehending Rupert."

After hearing the allegations against the 53-year-old fugitive, the show's producers agreed to air a story on Rupert, police said.
Niagara police are interested in Rupert over a March 15, 2009 incident.

They were called to a private retirement residence to investigate allegations that a resident had been defrauded of money.

A 93-year-old man told them a person came to his room saying he was a member of a religious organization. That person asked for money for car repairs and left the impression with the senior that he was a distant relative, police allege.

The suspect got some money, then convinced the senior to come with him to the bank and withdraw even more funds, police allege.

Upon investigating, they found a similar incident that occurred in St. Catharines earlier in the same day.

In January, numerous police services held a joint news conference in Toronto to announce that several warrants had been issued for Rupert's arrest.

Niagara police say that in June, an alert bank employee in Winnipeg noticed Rupert with a senior at an ATM, allegedly instructing the person on how much money to withdraw.

The last known sighting of Rupert occurred in West Vancouver on Aug. 3.

No allegations against Rupert have been proven in a court of law.
