One person is in custody following a stabbing inside the Eaton Centre in the city’s downtown core this afternoon.

It happened near the fountain by HMV in the Eaton Centre, located near Yonge and Queen streets, shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Police said they received a call from a customer in the store who heard a confrontation going on nearby.

At some point, a man was stabbed multiple times. Police said the victim attempted to leave the scene before collapsing.

He was transported to a nearby trauma centre with serious injuries, paramedics said.

Photos from inside the shopping mall showed blood stained rags strewn on the floor.

Amanda Lal, who works at the nearby LaSenza store, said she witnessed the incident.

"Traumatizing to be honest," Lal told CTV Toronto. "You never think in your workplace you're going to have something like that happen."

Lal said she saw a man get attacked by two other men and that one of the men "had a knife on them." Security guards were able to knock the knife away at some point, but one of the attackers was able to retrieve it, she said.

"He was able to grab his knife again and stab him in the back as well," Lal said.

Mall security told police a suspect walked away from the area following the stabbing and was seen heading north on Bond Street from Queen Street.

Police arrested a suspect on Queen Street a short time later.

Though witnesses have described seeing two men attack the victim, it was not immediately clear if police are searching for any other suspects.

Lal said she heard the potential second suspect was riding a bicycle at the time.
